Quality - The Word for 2016

Happy 2016! I am not one for making New Year's resolutions, but I do like the challenge of picking an inspiring word for the year and working towards goals associated with it.  For this year, I chose the word quality.  I want to strive for quality in all that I do...the time I spend with my family, the foods that I eat, the art that I make.  If something is worth doing it is worth doing right! I created this tag as a reminder throughout the year, not just for the first few days of January. While I was working on this, it gave me time to reflect on what I can do to make 2016 a great year.

One of my favorite summer palettes is red and aqua - so I colored this gorgeous image from IndigoBlu.  After my flowers were covered, I masked them and stamped the background image with embossing powder and inked over it.

Let Your Soul and Spirit Fly

 I had so much fun creating this mixed media triptych and couldn't wait to share it with you.  The form was from Retro Cafe Art and it was exactly what I had been looking for.  After I misted the background,I added some gilding flakes and then started stamping the flat background images.  Then I used modeling paste and stencils to add French Script words.  I stamped the large Peony image onto vintage French dictionary pages using Versamark Ink and embossing powder.  After that was heat set, I fussy cut the image and adhered it to the panel.  I overstamped images and heat embossed them as well to add more dimension.  I love how these colors pop together!

Life's a Beach

Oh, the summertime is almost here, and of course, I can't wait.  I  saw this photo of my Aunt Pat and Uncle Conroy at a family reunion and begged for a copy of it!  I love how vintage and charming it is.  I built up layers of stamped images on my base page and then started adding all of the embellishments.  It was so fun to create.

Inspiration Photo + Ombre Effect

I was inspired by the colors and the layered swirls - I created the ombre on my background - and turned it sideways so the darkest color was to the left and it gradually lightened.

Play Day in the Studio

At the end of the week, I need time in my studio to unwind and create.  So today, I did just that.  I made this mixed media piece on a wood panel and really just had fun. I sprayed the background, then stamped/heat embossed the next layer, and added stenciled modeling paste with embossing powder sprinkled on it while still wet.  The snowflakes were rub-ons, and worked great over the modeling paste (I wasn't sure if it would work or not, so it was a happy success!).  I also thought it would be fun for a frosty canvas to add "frozen" droplets of water.

So after playing for a bit today, I feel refreshed and ready for the week ahead!
