Pink Hydrangea

I'm taking a break today from Christmas cards to share  a refreshing spring card that I made awhile back for a magazine submission - but sadly, it wasn't picked up.  But I still love this card and hope that you will too!

  1. Die cut the French Lattice from green patterned paper, back with a rectangle, cut to the same size as the die cut in the matching patterned paper.
  2. Hand stitch a seed bead at each intersection of the die cut. To make it easier to line up, poke a hole with the needle from the top towards the bottom, and then bring your needle up from the back and add a bead.
  3. Die cut 15 small flowers, in pink cardstock from the Embellishment #2 die. Cup the flowers using a stylus and foam mat. Cut a small Styrofoam ball in half, and glue flowers onto ball. After glue is dry, add a small pearl to the center of each flower.
  4. Tuck leaves under hydrangea and glue to the center of the card.

Sent From Heaven

I'm taking a little break today from the holiday cards, and decided to share with you a great card for a new baby.  This is a wing-fold card which is really simple to make, but is very impressive to recieve.

Cut the following pieces of paper to assemble card

Mist (blue)  cardstock:  5 ¾  x 12” - scored at 3 3/8; 5 1/8; 6 7/8; 8 5/8

Cut (2) from Lullaby  3 1/8 x5 ½

Cut (3) from Bundle of Joy 1 ½ x 5 ½

Die cut:

(2) Victorian Garden Doily Frame in Ivory

(1) Japanese Lace Oval  Angel Wing in Ivory

(1) Japanese Lace Oval in New Arrival

1.       Ink the edges of all patterned papers with Dark Cashmere ink.  Adhere the Victorian Garden Doily to each of the Lullaby mats.  Trim the excess from the doily frame.  Glue panels to the outer sides of the card base.

2.       Glue the three small Bundle of Joy  papers to the 3 center panels of the card.

3.       Glue the Japanese Lace Oval diecut to the cut shadow background.  Add pearls to each tip.

4.       Trace the oval from the Japanese Lace oval, and cut from Ivory cardstock.  Ink the edges.  Stamp the baby using Robin’s Egg.  Allow to dry completely, and stamp the sentiment, slightly overlapping the image using embossing ink.  Sprinkle with gold embossing powder and heat set.

5.       Adhere to the oval doily using dimensional adhesives and add bow.

Christmas Tag with Cheery Lynn Designs

I hope that those of you in the States had a wonderful Thanksgiving weekend! I sure did, but now it's time to get into full swing of the Christmas season.  I haven't put my tree up yet, but it's on the agenda for this week.  On that note, I have a Christmas tag to share with you today.  Tags are fun to make any time of the year, but are so great to have around now for presents.

I used one of our Window dies, backed it with vellum, and added a little touch of Flower Soft to the corners of the windows to look like snow.  I added some small flowers from the Embellishment 2 die to my holly folliage. The fancy backing was created by gluing 2 of Fiona's Magic Window Frames together, and just gave the tag a little more substance - plus it was a great place to tie my ribbons on as well.

Our new challenge should help get you in the Christmas spirit! We would like to see your Christmas creations using non-traditional colors (no red or green). Enter by Sunday night for your chance to win a $20 gift certificate!

Scor-Pal and Hampton Art Wrap-Up

This time of the year, people are always on the look out for cute projects that are easily and inexpensively made, to had out as those last minute gifts.  This treat holder really fits the bill.  It was designed  to hold  Ghiradelli Chocolate Squares, but you could tweak the measurements to hold any treat that you would like to use. It's so quick to put this together using the Scor-Pal!  And since we are talking chocolate here - the sentiment stamp from Hampton Art was perfect!

Cut (2) red card stock pieces 7" x 6"for the top and bottom of the box. With the 6" side along the top fence, score at 2" and 4".  Turn a quarter turn, and score at 2" and 5".  Score the top and bottom corner pieces to add a 1/2" tab. e.g. For the upper left corner, score at 1 1/2", only down to the 2" mark.  Do this for all four corners and trim away the rest of the corner paper.

Cut decorative paper to cover the box top and bottom:
(5) 1 3/4" x 2 3/4"
(4) 1 3/4" x 1 3/4"
Ink the edges of the patterned papers using the Dark Moss ink.  Attach these papers to the box form before you assemble it - that way you can easily punch two holes into the top, to tie your ribbon through.  After the holes are punched, assemble the box top and bottom using Scor-tape.

Cut the transparency 9" x 10 1/4". Score at 1 7/8"; 4 3/4"; 6 5/8"; and 9 1/2".  Attach the tab using Scor-tape, and slide the sleeve into the box bottom. Add your treats, and top with the lid.

To decorate the box, stamp and emboss the Hampton Art sentiment, using gold embossing powder.  Cut using a die cut, and frame the cut with a nesting cut from red glitter paper. Add die cut holly leaves, and red Dew Drops for the holly berries.

Keep a few of these ready throughout the holidays!

Cheery Lynn Designs Monday

Hope you had a good weekend! I've got two projects to share with you today -One for the CLD Inspiration Blog and one for the CLD Challenge Blog.

The challenge this week is fall colors (which is always my favorite palette!)  I decided to make a kraft based tag. I hope you will play along - remember, you could win a $20 gift certificate.

On the Inspiration blog, I've got a wintery 12 x 12 layout to share with you.

Most of the cuts are pretty obvious, but I do have one neat new trick to share with you. My clustering includes lots of snowflakes, and I wanted to add some dimension, but foam adhesive was not an option, due to the very lacey, intricate cut. So, I cut 7 of the same snowflake, and glued each layer together. In essence, I made my own chipboard. I love how this turned out, so I will be using this technique again!

I can't tell you how often I am reaching for the Delicate Lace Script font. It is the perfect size to add titles/ journaling to my layouts.  My poinsettia was made with the Build a Flower One, and brushed with Stickles for a little glimmer. The center of the flower was created with Snowflake 5.

At first glance, you might think these smaller snowflakes are part of the patterned paper, but actually, they are cuts from the Snowflowers One. I used some of our larger snowflakes on this layout as well - so you can see this is a really great size to add to your collection.

Scor-Pal Decorative Box With Drawers Tutorial

I've got a tutorial to share with you that I wrote for the Scor-Pal blog.  If you like trying different types of projects, be sure and check out all of the great how-to's found there.

It's so fun to find inspiration on Pinterest, and today's box was inspired by a box found on the site from Marianne.  This one is a three drawer version and would be perfect for special trinkets.

Farmhouse Paper Company:  Market Square - Barbershop
WorldWin Papers card stock
Cherry Lynn Designs Mini Pearl French Flair Reflections Doily
Spellbinders Rose Creations
Tim Holtz/ Advantus Screw Fastners
May Arts Ribbon
Ranger Distress Ink: Vintage Photo
Box base: 12 x 10 ½” card stock – With the 12” side along the top fence, score at 4”, 8”. Turn once clockwise and score at 3 ½”, 6 ¾”. Cut as shown.

Drawer Dividers: (2) 6”x 10 ¼” card stock – Score each long side at 1” and 5”, turn with the long side along the top fence and score at 1 ½”, 5 ½”, 9 ½”.  Cut as shown to form tabs and then fold  valley, mountain, valley, as shown .

Secure the two center sections together to form a shelf.
Join the two shelf sections together.

Add Scor-tape to both sides and the rear of the shelving unit. Attach the back to the center square first, and then the sides.

Adhere the rest of the flaps on the box base around the shelving unit to complete.

Drawers: (3) 8” x8” card stock – Score each at 1”,2”6”, 7” – turn a quarter turn and repeat.  Cut tabs as shown.

Add Scor-tape to each tab, and attach the sides.
Fold over the top edge, with Scor-tape to reinforce the sides.

Your basic drawer box is now put together and ready to decorate.

Designer Papers:
Drawer Fronts: (3) 7/8” x 3 ¾”
Box Top 3 ¾” x 3 ¾”

Box Wrap Décor: Cut 2 strips of card stock 4” x 12”.  Use a decorative die to shape the top peak on each piece of paper. With the die cut edge in the upper left corner, the long side lined up with the top fence, score at 2”, 4 ½”, 8”.  Repeat for second paper strip.
Add decorative papers to these panels, and attach to the bottom and sides of the box.  Score-tape the upper flaps together or use a ribbon to hold the sides together.

Thank You Card

I love the Graphic 45 Tropical Travelogue line and wanted to see if I could create a Hibiscus to match the papers.  It actually turned out to be a really easy flower to create, using the Build a Flower Two.
I cut 5 petals from a peach cardstock, and inked the edges darker.  I added color to the centers using  India Ink markers. With  a flower shaping tool, I ruffled the edges of the petals and glued each one to a small circle of paper. I rolled a little strip of paper for the stamens and glued it to the center.  The Tropical Leaves were the perfect way to finish it off.

I added the Princess Garden Window behind the French Flair Doily Stacker, and used just the corner portions of the Hawaiian Luau Doily Frame as added embellishment.

The plain cream French Doily Stacker on the inside of the card provides space to write your note.

The theme this week at Cheery Lynn Designs Challenge Blog is Give Thanks.  Be sure to play along for your chance to win a $20 gift certificate.

Friends Love You Forever

Last week, Cheery Lynn Designs introduced their October release - and today I am sharing with you a 12 x 12 layout that features more of the new dies, as well as some older ones.  If you have'nt checked out all of the new release, be sure to take a look. They are really fabulous!

My flowers were created using the center cuts from the Heartland America XL Doily as the base, and then layering that with two different cuts from the Snowflowers Set 1.  Who would of thought that you could create flowers using a heart doily and snowflakes? Just goes to show you how versatile these dies are!  I loved how Kianel made curly-ques last week using the Expandable Quilling strip die - and had to try my hand at it this week.  Thanks for a great idea, Kianel!

Garden Time

This weekend I had a chance to sit down an play along with the Kaisercraft sketch challenge - which I always love participating.  Let me tell you though - my hands are still inky!

I combined Kaisercraft papers and flowers with Dusty Attic chipboard - and was thrilled with the finished layout. I painted each and every brick, and added a little Flowersoft moss - which really looks like the wall in my parent's garden.

I embossed this urn using Wow Ultra High Silver powder and Distress Embossing Powder combined.  I love the tarnished, weathered look.

My frame has so many layers of mists and crackle paint - but it has so much depth.

Thanks for stopping by!

I've got a project to share with you today that I used tons of my new Hampton Art/ 7 Gypsies stamps on. This was one of those projects that I just kept layering stamps and mists and paints to come up with a really cool surface.

Hampton Art Stamps:  7 Gypsies Distressed Words PS0680, Best of Times IC0150;  Art Soul DF2193
Clearsnap:
Donna Salazar Mixd Media Inkz:  Patina, Pewter, Leather
Archival Dye: Mudslide
Top Boss Watermark Ink
Smooch Spritz: River Mossy, Log Cabin
Smooch Ink: Ocean Soul

Twiddleybitz Chipboard: Fantasy Shadow Box Frame, Cast Iron Gates, Lamp Post
WorldWin Papers Cardstock
Cheery Lynn Designs Dies: Miniature Rose; Flourish Leaf Strip
Wow Embossing Powder: Metaline Green; Ultra High Copper; Tea Garden Green; Black Glint; Metallic Platinum Sparkle; Clear
Tools: Fiskars Fuse Die Cutting Machine
Adhesives: GlueArts Glue Glider Pro – Perma Tac; U Cut It Dimensional Adhesive

Designer Notes:

1.       Ink and stamp all pieces of the Shadow Box Frame prior to assembling.

2.      On the main piece of the frame, stamp the Distressed Words using the Mudslide Archival ink.  Heat set.

3.      Using an open flourish stamp from Best of Times, stamp over the top of the words with the watermark ink. Heat set.

4.      Ink over the entire surface with Pewter ink.  Randomly apply Patina, and apply Leather around the edges.  Take a paper towel and rub to remove excess ink from the embossed areas.

5.      Fill in areas of the flourish stamp with Smooch ink.  Blot immediately with a paper towel to soften.

6.      Randomly stamp a few areas with the Distressed Words and the Mudslide ink.

7.      For the inside of the shadow box, mist with Smooch spritz.  Allow to dry, and stamp the sentiment with watermark ink, and sprinkle with black embossing powder. Heat set.

8.      Ink the fence with the same Mixd Media Inkz as above, adding more of the brown.  Randomly sprinkle with the Copper and Green embossing powders and heat set.

9.      Emboss the lamppost with the Platinum powder and heat set.  Add handmade flowers and die cut leaves to embellish.

10.  Ink all remaining pieces of the frame (fronts and backs) with the Patina ink.  Assemble as shown.

October New Release at Cheery Lynn Designs!

It's our new release day at Cheery Lynn Designs and I know you are going to be thrilled with the new dies we have to show you today.  Be sure to visit the inspiration blog today and see the great creations the rest of the design team came up with.

I've got a 10 x 10 canvas to share with you today.  I think my favorite die set for this release is the Delicate Lace Script.  This one set has upper and lower case as well as numbers and punctuaction. This is the perfect size to add words to your projects - and look how awesome it looks adding the Forever die.

I've experimented a little bit with quilling in the past, so the new Expandable Quilling Strip die is going to have me adding rolled paper to my projects.  But that's not the only use for this die - it cuts such thin strips of paper, that have slight embossed lines (making it easy to shape the paper), that I was able to tie a bow for the top of the birdcage, using one of the strips.

The flower was made using the Build A Flower 2, and Embellishment 2.  Leaves and greenery were created with dies from the new release.

So, I hope you are inspired by what we have to show you today - and I'll look forward to seeing what Cheery Lynn fans come up with using the new dies!
