Painted Princess with ColourArte

It's been an inky, painty, creative-filled weekend.  I thought I would share with you how I made this mixed media portrait  from a piece from a vintage linen tablecloth.

 

I've used fabulous paints from ColourArte, so I am submitting this piece to try out for their design team (so wish me luck!). You will probably recognize some of this company's products including the Silks Acrylic Glazes, Twinkling H2O's, and the Radiant Rain.  If you don't know about them yet, be sure to check our the ColourArte Blog for more inspiration and education.

 Tear a piece of vintage linen tablecloth to approximately 16" x 16".

Layer vintage laces over parts of the cloth, and adhere with a thin layer of Venetian Plaster and a large putty knife.  Allow the plaster to dry completely.

 Lay the stencil over the cloth. 

 Trace around the stencil with a Stabilo-All pencil.

 Paint a base of a flesh color over the stencil.

 With a brayer, apply (Rustic Rose) Silks Acrylic Paint to areas of the background.

 

Apply a layer of Venetian Plaster through the stencil and allow to dry.  Sponge on ink to make the image easier to be seen, lining the stencil back up on the cloth and using an InkBlusher to apply the ink.

 Fill in white areas of the background using Twinkling H2O's watercolors (Golden Opal)

Begin to use the Silks paints to build shadows on the face.  Start with a gray layer using Warm Grey. As you build the shadows, start adding  more reflective shadows with Olive Vine; Teal Zircon, Black Emerald, Snapdragon and Autumn Leaf.  As the layers are added, paint over the inked outline as well.

 

Paint the lips and cheeks with  Rustic Rose and Spiced Pumpkin.  Add highlights to the face with Emperor's Gold.

Paint Teal Zircon around the face to create a shadow, and blend with your fingertip.

With a brayer, apply Vintage Mint over parts of the background, to make the image more harmonious.

Paint a thick coat of paint on the back of a crown mask, with Sky Blue.

 

Apply to the canvas. Use a brayer to really press the paint onto the fabric.  Leave the mask in place, and spray over the area with Radiant Rain in Sunburst.

Remove the mask.  If you over-sprayed onto the face at all, use a paper towel to blot up the excess.

Use an InkBlusher to apply a light coat of paint through a stencil. Use random bits of the stencil over the canvas.

Using the same method, apply leaves and vines with the Olive Vine paint.

Continue layering stencils to achieve the desired background.

Paint several coats of the Teal Zircon over junk metal earrings. 

Glue the earrings to the canvas to finish.

Since it's Wednesday, that means I get to share another Heartfelt Creations Project with you!  Today I've got a layout that I made using a picture of my sister and sweet little nephew.  We took this at the local pumpkin patch this fall.

I love the detail that the matching stamps and dies give to these flowers.

The chipboard title (from Words or Whatever -Wow) was embossed using several colors of powder.

Directions for 12 x 12 layout:

Stamp the Burlap background directly onto your background page using embossing ink - and emboss with gold. This will be the mat for your photo. Line the Decorative Blossoms Corner die up, to cut two adjoining corners, that will make a lacey semi-circle, using a light colored patterned paper.  Glue this so that it slightly overlaps the bottom right corner of the embossed burlap. Add your photo over the burlap. Stamp and fussy cut the Weathered Fence and color with copics.  Layer this to the left of your picture.  Stamp the Vintage Floret flowers using the Dark Peony ink and cut with the coresponding die.  Mist with Glimmer Mist, shape and assemble.  Add foliage around the flowers and add to your layout.  Heat emboss the chipboard title and and to the layout to finish.





Words or Whatever Chipboard Debut!

I've been stalking my mailman for days, and finally my much anticipated box of chipboard from Wow -Words or Whatever  arrived.  I immediately sat down and started playing with all of the goodies.  If you are not familar with this line, you need to check it out! They have a wonderful selection of chippies - and an incredible line of heavy duty templates - AltaMATZ.  If you are looking for a source in the US - I noticed that Lindy's Stamp Gang has a nice selction!

This is a picture of me and my sister (about 40 years ago - yikes!) For the base, I misted the corners using the AltaMATZ 6 x6 Doily Corner .  The title was painted with gesso, and then spritzed and glazed with Glimmermist and Glimmer Glaze. My flourish was inked with Clearsnap Chalk ink, and then I stamped the background with a script stamp Hampton Arts/Graphic 45 Ladies Diary 1.

The flowers were stamped with the Hampton Art/ Doodlebug Sweet Background.

Designer Notes:

1.        Cut patterned papers to layer for base of layout as shown.  Ink all of the edges with dark brown ink and distress with water or distressing tool as desired.

2.       Add decorative machine stitching in black thread around the main panels.

3.       Cut a circle from corrugated cardboard. Paint with gesso.  Allow to dry.  Spray with Glimmer Mist, and paint areas with thick layers of Glimmer Glam. Allow to dry.

4.       Paint chipboard letters with Glimmer Glam.  Adhere to the corrugated circle.

5.       Stamp and die cut 6 layers of flower petals for each flower. Spray with glimmer mist and allow to dry.  Ink edges with brown ink.  Shape with flower shaping tools and assemble.  Add small amount of Dries Clear Adhesive and sprinkle with Gala Glitz.

6.       Stamp and cut two Leaf flourishes. Attach behind the floral cluster.

I've got a layout to share with you today that I challenged myself to go monochromatic.  I really had fun with thisusing texture to add interest. 1.        Roughen the edges of the base page using a distressing tool, then ink the edges with brown ink.  Cut an 11” square sheet of patterned paper, attach to the base and paint with gesso.   Allow to dry.

2.       Randomly stamp the Vintage Word Background using water mark ink, and emboss using Pepper colored powder. Glue a piece of lace down the left side of the page.  Dry emboss a panel of white cardstock and add over the lace. Add another light coat of gesso over this, and rub the gesso away from the embossed areas of text.  Stamp a few flower swirls from the Tattered Blossom Swirls. Layer a piece of embroidered organza or other sheer fabric, under the area where the photograph will go (extending beyond the space for the photo).

3.       Randomly spritz the entire page with the Iridescent Gold Glimmer Mist.  Paint the chipboard pieces with Gesso, allow to dry, and ink the edges using the brown ink.  Apply to the page.

4.       Using the cream and black patterned paper from the paper pad, stamp and cut multiple flowers in all sizes from the Tattered Blossoms.  Shape the flowers, arrange them in stacks, but don’t glue them together yet.

5.       Heat Clear Ultra High embossing powder in a Melting Pot.  Using tweezers, dip each of the flowers into the molten powder – starting with the bottom flower of the stack.  Remove a flower, set it on a heat resistant pad, and do the same thing with the next flower in the group.  Take the second flower and place in the center of the first.  The embossing powder will “glue” the flowers together.  Continue doing this for each layer of the flower. Make 3 large flowers in the manner.  Use single layers of smaller flowers for fillers.

6.       Take the completed flower and slightly heat with a heat gun, and while it is hot, mist it with Tattered Angels Chalk mist.  Attach the flowers to the layout.  Add a pearl to the flower center.

Garden Time

This weekend I had a chance to sit down an play along with the Kaisercraft sketch challenge - which I always love participating.  Let me tell you though - my hands are still inky!

 

I combined Kaisercraft papers and flowers with Dusty Attic chipboard - and was thrilled with the finished layout. I painted each and every brick, and added a little Flowersoft moss - which really looks like the wall in my parent's garden.

 

 

I embossed this urn using Wow Ultra High Silver powder and Distress Embossing Powder combined.  I love the tarnished, weathered look.

My frame has so many layers of mists and crackle paint - but it has so much depth.

I've got the details on how I created this layout, and all of my supplies listed below.  Thanks for stopping by!

1.        Take base page ( Corner blackberry) and water distress the edges.  After the page is completely dry, randomly swipe the edges using watermark ink, and sprinkle with ultra high gold embossing powder and heat set. Tuck gold crocheted lace  behind any tears along the edge.  Glue this entire sheet to a plain piece of cardstock.

2.       Cut patterned papers for each of the panels as shown.  Ink the edges using Leather ink, and then use a distress tool along the edges. Tuck a piece of crocheted lace under the long panel on the left side before gluing to the base.  Use dimensional foam to attach the other panels.

3.       Stamp the flower trio from the Tattered Blossoms Swirl set onto white cardstock, and fussy cut the image.  Color using Copic markers.

4.       Stamp 5 of the smallest Tattered Floral flowers, and 2 of the second smallest – using brown archival ink. Heatset the ink.  Using the matching die set, cut the flowers. Paint using Creative Inspirations Paint and allow to dry. Shape the flowers using the McGill tools and mat. Layer the flowers on the stamped base and add pearls to the centers.  Tuck chipboard swirls behind the flower cluster.  Attach above the photograph.

5.       Die cut words from the Spellbinders Girly Grunge Labels and attach directly to the photograph.

6.       Stamp, cut and color multiples of all 5 sizes of the Tattered Blossoms as above.  Shape and layer the petals as shown to create varying blossoms.

7.       Build the flower cluster on the page, starting with a die cut flourish from the Decorative Dutch Iris set.  Center your largest flowers in the center of the cluster, adjacent to the photograph.  Make sure some of the cluster touches the photo to help maintain a nice balance.  Build the cluster up by  adding the smaller flowers to the outer edges. Add glass glitter to some of the flower centers, pearls to others.

8.       Stamp the Maple leaf from the Open Falling Leaves set using watermark ink. Heat emboss using the Ultra High Gold embossing powder and cut using the matching die.  Shape the leaves and nestle the around the flowers.  Add a small bow made with the gold crocheted ribbon amongst the flower cluster.

9.         Color the chipboard letters using embossing powders and add to the upper right corner of the layout.

Here's a Little Sneak....

Here's a sneak peek of a layout that is featured today on the May Arts Blog.  Be sure to head over there to see all of the details!

Tag! You're It!

Tags are such a fun way to try new ideas - so I hope you will enjoy this vintage treasure I have to share with you today!

I startred off with a plain white tag, and stamped/embossed the background using JustRite Elegant Fronds background stamp and Wow Embossing Powder (Pepper).  Next, I cut scalloped circles from cardstock using Quickutz/Lifestyle Crafts Scallop Circles Die, and glued these down to my background, to add dimension.  I used an off-white acrylic paint over the entire tag, and then spritzed the it using Tattered Angels Glimmer Mist in Fully Purple and Olive Vine.   Next, I used the JustRite Shabby Music Background, and stamped that onto the raised areas of the tag. I added a little more Glimmer Mist to blend the background.

My focal piece was stamped from the JustRite Violette Vintage Lables and embossed with Wow Presidio Purple. It was spritzed with the same colors of Glimmer Mist.  Want2Scrap Pearls were added to the flower centers.  A Dusty Attic Chipboard flourish was added to help frame the label.  It was stamped using the Elegant Fronds stamp, and embossed with Wow Angel Wings.  I nestled paper flowers, Bazzill Bling, and some Tim Holtz metal embellishments around my flourish.  The gold netting under my label is from Webster's Pages.  The lace at the bottom was dyed with the Glimmer Mist.  The bow at the top of the tag is May Arts Ribbon.

Love You Always with Wow Embossing Powders

Today is the Powder Puff Girls Team Blog post over at the Wow Embossing Powder Blog.  Be sure to stop over to see all of the amazing projects created by my team members!

I've got a layout to share with you today of my beautiful sister and nephew. I am so blessed to have them in my life!  The unusual combination of Suzy West Wow colors creates an eclectic, layered layout. The corrugated cardboard shimmers with Angel Wings. The Dusty Attic chipboard was dry embossed with a Spellbinder's folder, and heat embossed with a mixture of Cable Car Red and Skyline Grey Puff. The fern fronds were misted with Tattered Angels Glimmer Mist (Apple) and then embossed with Earthtone Olive.

Robin's Nest Inspiration

I had such a great time on my vacation at the beach last week, I knew that a beachy layout would be a great thing to share with you, for my first post as a member of the Robin's Nest DT.

I wish you could see this sparkly paper in person - it is so much more gorgeous than it looks in my photo. I started out with the Glitter Seashore page, and water distressed the edges. I machine stitched it to a base using metallic silver thread, that looked great with the glitter. I misted the page, which almost made it look like beach water splashing on it. I matted my photo with Brown Fishnet, which is the perfect embellishment for any beach themed project. I snuck in a Crafty Secret Mermaid stamp, that I colored with Copics. And then, I thought that she needed a splash of magic, so I sprinkled Dew Drops in Fairy Dust all around her. My chipboard magnifying glass is from Tattered Angels, but I sprayed the backing paper and added the sentiment and star fish rub-ons from the Water Logged set. Finally, my title is made using the Glitter Letter stickers.

Believe You Can Fly

I hope you had a wonderful Easter weekend! I had an extra day off, so a little extra time to craft! This week we will be wrapping up our things with wings challenge at the Beary Scrap. You have until April 30th to get your entry in.

This has been such a fun challenge! Today, I used the lovely Butterfly Garden from Pink Paislee. Even the wooden dragonfly is from this line. Now, I did do quite I bit of altering on it! I used Stickles, Glimmer Mist, Smooch - and then sanded it all to distress it a bit. I also used some of the yummy seam binding that Kimm just got in the store. I am really going to be stocking up on that stuff - it just makes a project look so great! My sentiment is from Unity Stamps.

The Beary Scrap - Sketch with pastels

It's the second week of our sketch challenge at the Beary Scrap - and the Design Team decided to challenge ourselves to use pastels. I don't really work well with pastels - so this is as close as I got! You may have to hunt for my sketch a little - but it's right there on the center panel!

I was delighted to jump into using Butterfly Garden by Pink Paislee. I used the papers, baubles, Ephemera and the Clear Pops. Many of the embellishments are already sold out, but Kimm will be getting more in. I used a Prima mask, and added some Glimmer Mist to help frame my center panel. I thought this layout would be the perfect spot to highlight the May Arts Sheer Woven Rosette trim. I added Kaisercraft pearls to the center of each flower.
