Creative Paperclay - How cool!

I have a really cool product to share with you today - it's called Creative Paperclay, and it's just like the name implies, it's a modeling clay, made from paper that dries to a hard but light weight material. There are just so many great ways that you can use this clay - my mind is just racing with ideas.

When I am making any kind of mixed media project - I'm all about layers. I want someone to look, and wonder how did she do that? So, if you noticed the really interesting medallion on my card, it started out as just plain, white Creative Paperclay.

I began by rolling out the clay, to about a 1/4" thick. I inked up a stamp from JustRite's Bon Voyage set, and stamped into the clay, with a firm but even pressure.

I allowed the clay to dry for several hours, so it was set, but still pliable, and I trimmed it to my oval shape. Then I allowed it to dry completely before starting the coloring process.

To add colors - your choices are unlimited. I sprayed mine with mist first to get a nice, solid base color. Then I added Smooch inks, Viva Decor gold, Distress Stains. I put small amounts of Stickles in some of the deep grooves, and smeared this thin with my finger. I let this dry completely. And I could have stopped here, but decided what if....?

So for my final step, I covered the medallion in Sakura Crystal Lacquer. This added some much depth. I love how it turned out. I ended up using my piece on a card, but it would be awesome for jewelry, home decor, tassels - it's so versatile!

And the final project!

Lovely card. I love the paper clay pieces. I will have to look for some. I used Sculpty clay for years so the idea of a clay that dries to be light weight is awesome :) Thanks for sharing.
