Last week, Crafter's Companion released the latest Create-a-Card Dies, with sentiments that make card making elegant and easy.  After I die cut my image, I applied adhesive with my Xyron Creative Station, and glittered the surface.  I made a presentation envelope to house the card - and it fits just perfectly!

Ringing In the New Year

Can you believe that the year is almost over, and soon we will be celebrating 2015?!! I'll admit, New Year's is not a huge crafting holiday....but, this is a cute decoration that is simple, but has the right holiday flare.

This was really easy to put together. The most time consuming part was covering the form with the black paper. Adding die cuts and ribbons was a fun way to bling it up a bit. The Glitter Silk paper was perfect, because it added sparkle without the mess. A year tag was tucked into the hatband . This tag was crisp and clean, but you could easily make the tag over the top fancy, to keep as a memento. Each year, the tag could be exchanged to ring in the new.

Back to the Chalkboard - Thank You Cards

During the holiday season, it is easy to focus on getting those Christmas cards made and sent out, but this time of year, we also need a steady supply of thank you cards. This trendy chalkboard card fits the bill. Add an easy matching envelope, and you have a stunning set.

 Step 1. Score each side of the card front to create a border. Sand with the Sand-It Gadget to reveal the chalkboard effect. 

 Step 2. Die cut the label, then emboss with the folder. Sand the edges and the designs.  

Step 3. Die cut the decorative label. Mount on the card base with foam adhesives. Mount the snowflake label on top with more foam adhesives.

 Step 4. Add gems and ribbon to decorate.

 Step 5. Die cut snowflakes with Glitter Silk and layer on the card.

 Step 6. Die cut the sentiment and mount on another die cut label for the inside greeting. 

 

Envelope Directions: 

 Step 1. Emboss a piece of the colored chalkboard with the Snowflake folder.

 Step 2. Tear the edge of the embossed paper. Trim to fit the envelope and adhere.

 Step 3. Add glitter glue to the centers of the snowflakes.

Core'dinations and Graphic 45 Blog Event

  I love working with Graphic 45 products, and I always find that I am challenged to think outside of the box - or in this case, design around the box. I started out with the G45 ATC Book Box, and decided to turn it into a Dog House that functions as a bank. Using the Raining Cats and Dogs collection got me thinking about saving for a rainy day and inspired the idea of a piggy bank.

 I constructed a roof to fit over the box ( and cut a hole to insert money). The dog house was decorated and finished with a paper umbrella, made from a scalloped circle. To access the money inside, simply untie the ribbon.

A Thing of Beauty...Core'Dinations, Xyron and Petaloo Week

Hello again, fellow Core lovers! It's Gini, and today I have an upcycling project to share with you, using some of my favorite products. With a little help from Core'dinations, Xyron and Petaloo, I was able to transform a lowly Pringles Chip container into a dispenser for cosmetic cotton rounds.

Step 1. Measure around your container and cut paper to fit.  
Step 2. Draw a template for your opening on scrap cardstock. Cut in the center of the paper as well as the canister.

   
Step 3. Stamp decorative border at the top and bottom of the paper with watermark ink. Heat emboss with gold powder. Tip: Sometimes metallic embossing powders leave a residue. Use the Dust Buddy after embossing to remove this powder.

  Step 4. Run the paper through the Creative Station machine to apply adhesive. Carefully adhere to the canister, lining up the openings.
 Step 5. Ink the back of the vellum quote with metallic gold. Die cut a frame using the Glitter Silk cardstock.

  Step 6. Use the small tape runner to apply adhesive to the back of the frame. Center quote and trim the excess.

  Step 7. Cut a circle to match the top of the canister. Add trim around the top and bottom of the canister and lid to hide the raw edges.
 Step 8. Spritz the flowers with gold and let dry.
 Step 9. Add the embellishments to the canister to finish as shown.

So remember, look at your empty containers with a creative eye, before you take out your trash! See you soon.

 I am thrilled to be representing Core'dinations today!  And although I am not ready for winter, I had so much fun designing this cheerful snowman.  And that gourgeous, glittery background was made using a Dreamweaver stencil, as well as some of their embossing paste.  It made a perfect wintery backdrop for the precious Stampendous snowman.The Vintage and Whitewash collections from Core'dinations already have a "snowy" appearance to them, so I thought they were the perfect choice.

Day of the Dead Canvas

Hi fellow Core lovers! It's Gini, and I am here to share my first post as part of the Core'dinations Design Team. I've become intrigued with the Day of the Dead celebration, and thought I would try my hand at creating a colorful canvas. The sparkle in the Core Couture paper did a great job of mimicking the famous sugar skulls. And while crepe paper marigolds are the traditional decoration, I thought I would create them using punches and Core'dinations. 

 

Day of the Dead Canvas Supplies:

Step 1. Apply full coverage adhesive to the back of a 12 x 12 sheet of White Gloves Core Couture paper. Adhere to the wooden skull.

 Step 2. Roughly trim around the skull. Use the Sand It Gadget to smooth the edges. 

 

 Step 3. Use a craft knife to remove the paper covering the intricate designs and smooth with small craft files

 Step 4. Outline the designs with dimensional paint. Allow to dry. 

 Step 5. Sand a piece of Jillian Dot Spotted and adhere to a canvas.

 

 Step 6. Adhere the skull to the canvas.

 Step 7. Punch flowers from Brights Cardstock (a mix of orange, yellow and red). Each flower needs 4 large and 4 small flowers.

 Step 8. Lightly mist the flowers with water. Shape with your fingers to form a bud. 

 

Step 9. Continue shaping each flower and allow to dry. 

 

 Step 10. Carefully unroll the dried flowers. Assemble with a dot of glue between each layer of petals.

  

Step 11. Glue the flowers to the canvas. Add ribbon to finish. 

 

May Arts, Authentique and Imagine Crafts Blog Hop Day One

Welcome to the first day of the awesome May Arts, Authentique and Imagine Crafts hop.  I know you are going to have fun and be inspired all week long.  As always, we have some wonderful prizes to give away - 3  prize packs with goodies from each of these wonderful companies!  Leave comments along with way for more chances to win.

When I saw this cheerful patterned paper, I instantly thought of quilt squares and decided to add my own faux ribbon quilting.  I took a matching piece of patterned paper and ran it through a Xyron adhesive machine to put adhesive on the back side.  I then laid ribbons over the sticky part to create a piece of ribbon "fabric".  Then, I flipped the paper back over and cut strips that matched where I wanted to add the ribbons and adhered it to the base paper. I inked the edges of my papers with the Orange ink (Morocco) and then sprayed a little bit of the Tangelo Fireworks onto my craft mat, and painted the edges of the quilted ribbons to make them blend a little better.  I also sprayed the sequin heart with the Fireworks to match the color scheme.

Wooden Flower Pot, Birdhouse and dowels
Golden Paints

Paint the store-bought wooden flower pot, birdhouse and dowels.  Cut paper to cover the flower pot and birdhouse, using the Classic Sunflower Paper Collection. Stamp the Sunflower Bouquet on the large area of the flower pot, color with gelatos and ink the edges of the paper before gluing  on. Die cut a tag, and use paper twine to tie around the flower pot. Stamp and cut the flowers using the coordinating die.  Color with gelatos, mist with water and shape.  When dry, glue the flowers together.  Add a flower center from the Arianna Blooms die set, and color a sparkletts with a Copic marker to match your flower. Glue flowers to dowels.  Stamp and cut the butterfly and glue to the birdhouse to finish.

Take a 5 x7" card base and adhere the printed panel. Cut the patterned paper panel for the center, and cut away the center label.  Stamp the background on light colored patterned paper and adhere to the back of the panel. Add to the card base. Cut the long, narrow panel and stamp the sentiment in gold. Adhere to the center of the card.  Stamp the lantern and color.  Fussy cut and add to the card with foam adhesives. Stamp the poinsettia with watermark ink and heat emboss with gold powder.  Cut with the matching die.  Color and add micro beads for the flower center. Adhere to the card with foam adhesives.  Finish with pearls and ribbons as shown.

Take a 6 x 6" card base and adhere a 5.75 x 5.75 piece of patterned paper. Cut the printed panel, and add Stickles to the berries in the background. Die cut the fancy corners from gold foil paper using the HCD and adhere to the back of the panel, so that the corners stick out as shown. Stamp the birds, color with Copic markers, and fussy cut.  Adhere the image to the card with foam adhesives. Stamp the flower border, color and fussy cut.  Stamp, cut  and shape the poinsettias to match. Paint the flowers and add Dimensional Crystal for the centers.   Adhere to the border and place on card.. Finish with ribbons.

The 24 Hour Craft Days on HSN are always fun. I've always loved any type of architectural detail, so I was thrilled to see the new photo-based stamps from Hampton Art/ Art Etc.  So many of these images capture these great designs, and are just waiting to be used on your stamping projects. I wanted this stamp to be the star of the show, so I kept this pretty simple.

1.  Start with a 5 x7" card base.  Cut the patterned papers as shown and adhere to base.

2.  Stamp the image with watermark ink onto ivory cardstock.  Heat emboss with black powder.

3.  Ink over the image with distress inks, spritz with water, wait a couple of seconds and use a paper towel to dab up the excess water.  Ink the edges with black.

4.  Stamp the sentiment and die cut.  Ink around the image while still in the die.

5.  Add ribbon where the two patterned papers meet.

6.  Use foam adhesives to add the stamped panels to the card.

7.  Finish the card with pearls and flourish.
