New Release at Crafter's Companion!

It's always so much fun when Crafter's Companion has a new release - and this one is no exception. They have added 6 new dies to the Die'sires Create-A-Card Collection - each one featuring  a sentiment and background design.  I used the Friend die and created a cross between a fancy fold card and a mini album.  When you untie the ribbon, you open the card as well as the inner folder, where I've added a photo mat. This would be such a great way to remember a fun event with friends.
Be sure to go look at the rest of the dies in the collection, and watch Facebook for more inspiration from the design team

May Arts Ribbon and Scor-Pal Blog Hop Day 2

Welcome to day 2 of the May Arts Ribbon and Scor-Pal Blog Hop! I hope you have had a great time and have been inspired.  I am so blessed to be a member of both of these fantastic companies - so I know you have seen some amazing projects.  I hope you've left plenty of comments along the hop as well, for your chance to win Scor-Pals and a May Arts Ribbon Package (your choice of 3 spools!)

On to my project - I created folding card/mini album based on a tutorial by Natascha Banning on the Whiff of Joy blog.  She calls hers a card, but by the time I added all of the paper layers, and inside flaps, I think it's more like a mini.

For the base, cut cardstock 6" x 12" and score at 4 3/4" and 10 1/4".  Add your decorative papers, die cuts and handmade flowers.  Use a hole punch to punch holes to tie the ribbon through to hold the album shut.

For the inside of the album, you are going to make a small accordion feature for the right hand side.  Cut cardstock 4" x 12" and score at 4", and 8". Attach ribbon to the center back, using Scor-tape (this will wrap around the front to tie closed).  Decorate the according album.

I used a banner sticker extending off of the page (above), but didn't want the sticky part to show on the backside (below). So instead, I backed it with a wide grosgrain ribbon, so that it would be pretty from either direction.

May Arts Ribbonistas Earth Day Hop

Welcome to the May Arts Ribbonista's Earth Day Blog Hop!  We hope that you will find lots of inspiring ideas to help you celebrate today.

I wanted my Earth Day project to be something that showcased recycling - and also something that was created using some of our natural fibers.  I chose to make a decorative bottle (hence the re-purposed), wrapped with green jute.

I made yo-yo flowers from fabric to add to my bow. and finished everything off with a tag.

Grow With Love

I wanted to play in the challenge at JustRite Friday Challenge - and this week it was a color challenge.  I really kept feeling stumped by these colors, and thought they just weren't "my" colors - until I got ready to post this card, and started laughing when I saw the card I posted right before this one, used almost the exact same colors! Kind of funny.

Love Bandit

I hope you had a fantastic Valentine's Day! My husband and I went to our favorite Mexican restaurant and it was so yummy! If you are still in the mood for a little romance, perhaps this adorable raccoon will do the trick. Looks like he's heading out of the forest ready for a big date!

I love this pine branch, and thought it would be great to create a little scene.

Less than a Week!

This is the last weekend before Thanksgiving, and yes...I should be working on getting ready for the big day, but instead, I decided to play along with the Unity Friends With Flair hop. Seriously, who needs to clean house?!!

I have to tell you that the Samantha Walker Designs for Unity Stamps are my very favorites! I have almost all of them. And the Spellbinders that she designed...be still my heart! For today's card, I used Fall Splendor. This stamp set is so pretty, it makes me drool! I also used her Twisted Metal Tags and Accents Die to highlight my stamped embellishment. I punched the tiny scallops using my most used punch from EK Success.

I hope you will have time to hop along today, and see some of the wonderful inspiration!

Amazing Mold Putty

Are you ready for some products that are going to knock your socks off? Well, I've been playing with the Amazing Mold Putty and the Amazing Clear Cast. I thought for today, I would start out showing a relatively easy project, that I hope you will want to try out. These products are so fun - and really simple to use. I've used several different techniques on my card, and I think you will start to see how you NEED these products in your studio!

First, let me explain that the mold putty is a 2 part putty - that activates once you mix the two together. You are going to want to roll a ball of the two parts together (make it a little bigger than what you are molding). Mix it until the color is consistent - and not marbled.

Next you will place your object into the ball, and shape it to come up over the edges. Don't make the outside walls of your mold too thin. I used an old earring that was nothing special, but had really nice texture, that I thought would make great flower centers. Here you can see the finished mold and the original earring. Making the mold did not damage my earring at all. Now at this point, you could mold all kinds of things - Creative Paperclay, Polymer Clay, wax, PMC, sugar...you get the idea. But I love the Amazing Clear Cast! This is a clear resin (again a 2 part mixture). I decided to color my mixed resin using the Alumilite Dyes. You just need a tiny, tiny amount. Actually, I just dipped a skewer in the dyes, and mixed it in. I also thought it would be fun to add a little bit of glass glitter, so that got stirred into the mix as well.

Although, I thought I was only mixing up a little bit of the resin, it made quite a bit - so I started filling up other molds as well! I had a plastic leaf candy mold, and filled that up to make the leaf for my flower. I added some Gold Smooch to my veins after everything was set. The Smooch adhered great to the resin. So, I painted several colors of the Smooch on my flower center too, to give it some variation.

I stamped my flower petals with a small medallion from Inspired by Stamping's French Boutique. I think it's really fun to create flowers with something that wasn't meant for that purpose. The center of the flower (below my rope earring resin), was stamped from another Inspired by Stamping set - Delicate Doilies. Don't you love that dimensional leaf peaking out from the showy flower?

I hope I've inspired you to give these products a try! Once you start looking around your house, you won't believe how many things you will want to mold!

Give Thanks for Simple Blessings

Good morning! I realized I haven't posted any thing on my blog in several days - it's not that I haven't been busy creating (I just can't show you what I'm up to right now!) I am really blessed in so many ways - and love the sentiment I used on this card.

I was in the mood for fall, so I grabbed some Justrite Stamps (Autumn Blessings and Vintage Oval Labels) so that I could play along with their Fall challenge.I love how I can mix older Justrite stamps with the newer frames - It really gives me so many options! For my leaf bouquet - I cut oak leaves from the Tim Holtz Tattered leaves die, and shaded them with Art Institute Glitter. I "tied" the bouquet with seam binding, and added part of a felt flower from Epiphany Crafts and topped it with an epoxy made with the Shape Studio Tool Round 25.
I also added the smaller epoxies made with the Shape Studio Round 14 tool - around my stamped image.

Keep Your Face to the Sunshine

I have a layout to share with you, that came together so serendipitously! I wanted to play along with the Basic Grey Sketch for the week, and was working on this last minute. I found the pictures that I was wanting to use, but was wanting to link them together a little more. I found the wonderful quote by Helen Keller, which was perfect...and then, I realized I had a rub-on that said "Sunshine" in this paper collection! How cool is that? I loved including my title within the journaling.

Give Your Layouts Their Own Jewelry!

I love making my own embellishments for my projects, and usually that means flowers or rosettes, but I decided I love to wear jewelry, and I'm sure my layouts would like a little bling of their own. So, I'm going to show you how to make a very Nouveau inspired page jewelry.

Step 1. Run a small piece of craft copper through your Cuttlebug with and embossing folder.

Step 2. Cut a scrap of cardboard to the desired size and shape of your finished medallion.
Add Scor-tape to the back.

Step 3. Wrap your metal around the cardboard and adhere with the Scor-tape.

Step 4. Add some color by swiping over the raised areas with Staz-On ink. Let dry, and then cover the entire tile with Sakura 3-d Crystal Lacquer. Let dry completely.

Step 5. Take a round jewelry finding and back it with a patterned paper of your choice. Don't worry about this being to precise, the edges will be covered over, with a border of the Metallic Gold Crystal Lacquer.
Step 6. Add a chipboard motif to the center of your pendant. Then, completely fill in using the Clear Crystal Lacquer. Take a toothpick, and pull a little bit of the gold to the center, so that it is not such a well defined border. Allow to dry, and glue to the tile piece. You are now ready to add this to any project that you would like!
